Austin’s downtown has really grown over the years. I also like the Hill Country it sits next to. With that said, I pick Dallas. Austin is just a nice weekend trip and usually that’s to the Hill Country.

Please do houses by price per sq ft. That varies by neighborhood, hard to compare. But utilities are ridiculous in Texas, year 'round, property taxes aren't going down, that's a fallacy. What is the "California Culture" exactly that you don't want? Because homelessness is already everywhere. I see it WAY more in DFW than I did in Los Angeles and that says a lot.
